BEAUTY..

Tips | INCI
The choice for a cosmetic product is usually determined by the claims on the packaging, advices you get from a sales person, or by an advertisement. What we often forget to check is the list with ingredients to see if there are any ingredients in it that can cause you harm, or whether or not the claims are true. We read things like 'contains aloe vera' or 'contains vitamin E', even though the percentage of these ingredients are so low that it won't have all the advantages of a product with higher concentrations of those same ingredients.

An example of a list of ingredients from facial cleansing wipes:

Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate, Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Parfum, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Centaurea Cyanus (Cornflower) Extract, Aloe Barbendensis Leaf Extract, Bisabolol, Panax Gingseng Extract, Camelia Sinensis (Green Tea) Extract, Decyl Glucoside, Panthenol, Chamomila Recuita (Matricaria) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Benzyl Salicylate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool

The first three ingredients are constructive and stabilizing ingredients for the formula. The ingredient Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate is a cleaning ingredient, which is important of course, since it's they're cleaning wipes.

Vitamin E can be found on the bottom of the INCI list als Tocopheryl Acetate, which means that there's only a really small percentage of vitamin E in it. To make a quick comparison, there is more perfume in this product than vitamin E.
For this product it would have been better if it had the claim 'soothing and refreshing' on it because the ingredient Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract is fairly on top of the list.

So when you are looking for a product with a certain claim, we always advice to do some research and check the listed ingredients. There is a very handy website which can help you on your quest: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/
