BEAUTY NEWS..

Harvey Nichols | New Beauty Concept
The luxurious department store Harvey Nichols will launch a new beauty and cosmetic concept store. The store will not only sell beauty and cosmetic products but it will be a serious big store where products, treatments and services come together. The concept will be name: 'The Beauty Bazaar' and they will open their first shop in Liverpool.

'The Beauty Store' in Liverpool will have three levels. At the ground floor, a selection of premium beauty product will be sold. Need advise? You can hire your own personal beauty shopper who will be at your service in the store. Ofcourse, they will not have 'regular' shopping baskets. At 'The Beauty Bazaar' you can shop with a shopping bag inspired by the famous Hermes Kelly Bag.

At the first level, the basic beauty treatments will be available for walk ins. You can style your hair, get a mani/pedi and some fake lashes. Next to that, you can relax at the champagne and cocktail bar, which should be a hotspot in a small matter of time.

At the second level, the more complex beauty treatments will be performed. For these treatments (botox, spray tans, teeth whitening and permanent make-up) you should make an appointment in advance.

BEAUTY NEWS..

Denmark | Phthalates
The Danish minister of Environment, Ida Auken, has decided to ban four industrial chemicals. Auken will ban the following chemicals in Denmark: DEHP, DBP, DIBP and BBP phthalates. The chemicals will be forbidden starting this fall.

What are phthalates?
Phthalates are used to soften and supple plastic components. For cosmetic products, phthalates are often used as a stabilizer or emulator for products such as hairspray, deodorant, nailpolish and perfume.

Why are phthalates dangerous?
Phthalates are absorbed by the skin and inhaled through the mouth and nose. During several health studies, the liver, lungs and kidneys were clearly damaged. Different scientists at government institutions in both the U.S. and Canada agree that phthalates can cause serious health issues and even reproductive problems. It is therefore highly recommended that pregnant women, fertile women, babies and kids to watch out using products which contain 'perfume'.

How can you recognize phthalates?
Phthalates are stated on cosmetic labels as: dibutyl phthalate (DBP), dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) and butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP). Unfortunatly, sometimes phthales are disguised under the name perfume, this often occurs with nailpolish and hairspray.

Phthalates can be replaced by other, safe ingredients. Would you like to know more about this subject? Send you question to info@celeste-originals.com

Trend | Burgundy
We have spotted a lot of models on the catwalk rocking burgundy red lips, and we've also seen a lot of it in the coming fall/ winter collections. This colour screams mystery and gives you a classic look in an instant.

But this might be a bit to fierce for your lips. Luckily, burgundy is also a great colour for your nails.

The following brand have a beautiful burgundy nail polish in their collection:
Tom Ford - Bordeaux Lust
Zoya - Paris
Debora Lippmann - Single Ladies

Natural Cosmetic Brands | Concept Stores
Natural and organic cosmetics is an ever-growing trend around the world. Same goes to say for Asia where this market grows more than 15% each year. The Asian consumer chooses natural products because he is more and more concerned about health issues.

Where European brands mainly get sold at the well-known retailers, many brands open their own concept stores in Asia, since not many retailers in this part of the world have much experience with natural and organic products. Which makes distribution a lot harder. For brands it is a much better strategy to sell their products directly via their own stores.
Opening own shops doesn't only have benefits when it comes to distribution, it also gives brands the opportunity to teach the consumer something about natural and organic products.

Well-known brands that have been opening up their own stores for a while are the Australian brand Jurlique (35 stores), the French brand Melvita (15 stores) and the English brand Neal's Yard Remedies (15 stores).

Do you want to know more about direct distribution in Asia? In Hong Kong, there will be a Sustainable Cosmetics Summit on November 11th and 12th, where direct distribution will be one of the key subjects.

EVENT..

Beyond Beauty Event | Cosmeeting
Every year, Beyond Beauty organizes a fair that consists of three categories: Cosmeeting, Creative Beauty and SpaMeeting Paris. This fair takes place in Paris, on September 10th, 11th and 12th 2012.

Cosmeeting
This is the category where companies represent their cosmetic brands. About 50% of the brands are international and the other 50% are French brands. From bodycare to make-up, you can find everything. There's also a special area for up-and-coming brands, called the Beyond Zoom area.
Apart from visiting the fair itself, you can also visit several conferences (costs: about 65,- euros per conference). Marie Claire for example, will give a presentation about the relation between fashion and cosmetics and The Scriptorium Company explains if we should invest in China or not.

Creative Beauty
Here, suppliers show their innovations which can be developed by brands or retailers as private label products. Suppliers can differ from companies that solely develop ingredients or offer machinery, or from companies that offer complete concepts.

SpaMeeting
At SpaMeeting, you can find everything that has got anything to do with the world of Spa's. From products to equipment and from interior to clothing. Visitors for the SpaMeeting area are mainly hotels, spa owners and distributors.

The fair in itself is not extremely big, but there's a lot to be seen. This fair is not only interesting when you're a buyer or distributor, but also when you are a beautyblogger or market researcher.
Tickets can be purchased via the website, and a ticket is valid for all three categories: http://www.cosmeeting.com/

Inspiration | Hairdo's
We have had some warm and sultry weather this last week in Holland, but we certainly won't complain! But it doesn't matter how beautiful and long our hair is, with temperatures starting at 30 degrees we prefer our hair put up.

We have sought and found a couple of cute summer up-do's that are definitely suitable for those summer days, both casual and classy.
