Cosmetics | Dermatologically tested & Hypoallergenic
In a previous article we mentioned that cosmetic packagings often carry misleading claims, like which active ingredients a product contains.
In this post we are going to talk about two claims that you'll see on a lot of the products and which have a great value for a lot of consumers. We're talking about 'hypoallergenic' and 'dermatologically tested'.

Whenever we buy cosmetic products for our sensitive skin, a baby's skin or for intimate parts of our body, we search for the terms mentioned above and when they're there, we assume it's ok.

Unfortunately, these two terms say next to nothing about the actual quality of the product.
Hypoallergenic is a more of a marketing term which is mostly used to say that a product is most unlikely to cause allergic reactions. But there are no accepted tests, ingredient conditions, rules or procedures that can prove that a product is hypoallergenic. So basically you can put the claim on the product, because there's no rule that says you can't.
That means there are a lot of products on the market that say they're hypoallergenic, but still contain problematic ingredients.

Same goes to say for the term 'dermatologically tested'. The big problem here is that you'll never read what exactly has been dermatologically tested, what the result are and under which conditions the tests have been executed. That means that any product can be dermatologically tested, but might just as well has had a negative result.

Luckily the inspections on cosmetic claims are getting more and more strict. Brands and companies need to be able to prove the claims are accurate with a test rapport.
Of course there are enough brands that produce products that are dermatologically approved and actually are hypoallergenic, but beware for the rotten apple!

Tips | INCI
The choice for a cosmetic product is usually determined by the claims on the packaging, advices you get from a sales person, or by an advertisement. What we often forget to check is the list with ingredients to see if there are any ingredients in it that can cause you harm, or whether or not the claims are true. We read things like 'contains aloe vera' or 'contains vitamin E', even though the percentage of these ingredients are so low that it won't have all the advantages of a product with higher concentrations of those same ingredients.

An example of a list of ingredients from facial cleansing wipes:

Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate, Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Parfum, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Centaurea Cyanus (Cornflower) Extract, Aloe Barbendensis Leaf Extract, Bisabolol, Panax Gingseng Extract, Camelia Sinensis (Green Tea) Extract, Decyl Glucoside, Panthenol, Chamomila Recuita (Matricaria) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Benzyl Salicylate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool

The first three ingredients are constructive and stabilizing ingredients for the formula. The ingredient Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate is a cleaning ingredient, which is important of course, since it's they're cleaning wipes.

Vitamin E can be found on the bottom of the INCI list als Tocopheryl Acetate, which means that there's only a really small percentage of vitamin E in it. To make a quick comparison, there is more perfume in this product than vitamin E.
For this product it would have been better if it had the claim 'soothing and refreshing' on it because the ingredient Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract is fairly on top of the list.

So when you are looking for a product with a certain claim, we always advice to do some research and check the listed ingredients. There is a very handy website which can help you on your quest: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/

Tip | Goody
Do you know that feeling: you're working out in the gym and all of a sudden you're bothered with loose strands of hair that tickle or get stuck to your face?
A headband is a good solution, only it can move backwards during your run. Either that or they're too tight.

The American brand Goody has designed a special headband for during your workout: Goody Slide-Proof Headwraps.
These little headbands are covered with a silicone material, preventing the band to roll or move in any direction. The headbands are available in different colors, from neutral brown to bright yellow and everything in between.

The headbands are unfortunately not yet available in Holland, but soon they'll be offered on BOOTS UK's webshop. But the best way to get them is to find someone that will travel to the USA soon, or to visit the States yourself. (Price: 5,99 dollars)

Sienna Miller | A new mommy
Actress Sienna Miller has given birth to a baby girl last Sunday in Londen. The father is her boyfriend (and fiancé?) Tom Sturridge. There aren't many other details known about the new family, but of course we presume the little girl is healthy and is getting lots of love from her parents.

Ever since her love life was of interest for the tabloids, Sienna is really keeping her private life private. There are rumors going about that she and Tom are engaged, but the couple has never confirmed or denied it. Same goes for the pregnancy by the way.
We wish Sienna, Tom and their little girl all the best for the future.

Vichy | Oil
Most people think that you'll get more tanned when using oil. But you've got to be careful with oil, because you'll also burn even faster. So always opt for an oil that's got an SPF 20 and when it comes to your face, it's better not to use oil, but an caring facial product with an higher SPF.

Oil is greasy and makes you sweat even more than you already do. Besides that, oil can be sticky and isn't always nice to use.
Vichy has got a sun oil that ticks all the boxes of a sun protection product and is also great to use. It protects all the way and is suitable for sensitive skin. The oil doesn't contain parabens. The oil is available in SPF 20 and SPF 40. Despite the fact that it is an oil, it doesn't feel greasy, does not simply lay on the skin, but is easily absorbed by the skin.

News | Deodorant
Deodorant is booming business. In western countries, people are more than accustomed to prevent themselves against bad odors as a consequence of sweating (heavily).
But that same western market has reached its top and doesn't show much signs of growth.

There are areas/ countries where deodorant is a rising product, like Latin-America, the Middle East and Africa. But when we're talking growth, Latin-America is a rising star and at the moment even the number 1 market for deodorant, worldwide.

That the Latin-American market is that large, hasn't got everything to do with people wanting to protect themselves against sweat, but all the more with the fine line between perfume and deodorant. A lot of people use deodorant for the pleasant fragrance. So that shows once again that every country or area has got its own preferences and demands for a product.

Celeb news | Adele is pregnant
Singer Adele keeps popping up in the news, but it does not always have something to do with her singing performances. First it was her relationship with 14-year-older boyfriend Simon Konecki, then they turned out to be engaged to be married, and nows she is pregnant! That's a lot of special developments her personal life. And in such a short period of time too.

Of course we are very happy for her and we hope they will be a happy family and that they will stay together forever. We are curious though if and when she will deliver new material. Because a lot of people will be very disappointed if she won't come back with a third (hugely successful of course) album after two such successful albums. We can't wait to see what will happen next!

Make-up | Lip-art
We have seen a lot of different colors of nail polish this year and of course the nail art that came with it. Inspired by a few big events (European Championship for example) and fashion trends. From neon colors to flag prints and from pastels to Ibiza-style.
To show you something different for once we have found a couple of great pieces of lip-art! They won't all be very wearable, but it sure is fun to watch!

Women | Pictures
Far before internet became accessible for everyone, we loved sharing our pictures. To show how our vacation had been. Even then we secretly hid pictures that didn't show our most fabulous side. And those pictures were always about ourselves. We never hid our friends because they surely looked great in every single picture anyway!

With all the different social media channels we now not only share our pictures with friends and family, even strangers can view what we did, where and with whom. Of course you don't put any ugly pictures of yourself online, but those of our friends seem to slip through. Why do we do that?

A survey by MyMemory.co.uk (taken with 1.500 British women) shows that 25 percent of those women have put a friend's not-so-flattering picture on the internet starring her in a bikini. And over three quarters of the women have placed a picture online of a friend whose outfit wasn't looking too great.

So why do we do this? According to the survey these bad pictures are the result of 'revenge'. It often is a revenge act as a result of a bad picture of themselves that has been placed by that same friend.
